What to Ask About a Compounding Pharmacy's Quality Testing
Every compounded sterile preparation starts with a prescription and ends with a patient. What happens in between is where a pharmacy's quality standards show.
Potency. Potency testing confirms a preparation contains the amount of active ingredient on the label. Ask whether it's done in-house or by an independent lab, and how often.
Sterility. Sterility testing checks that a preparation is free of microbial contamination. Ask how lots are sampled and what happens if a test fails.
Endotoxin. Endotoxin testing screens for bacterial byproducts that can cause reactions even when no live bacteria are present. Ask how often it's run.
Questions worth asking any partner.
Is testing performed by an independent lab?
